The Railway Association of Southern California is led by a group of railway industry professionals and volunteers who meet on a monthly basis to coordinate and implement the mission of the organization. The various RASC leadership positions are set forth in the Railway Association’s constitution and bylaws. Please select a role below to learn more about the Roles and Responsibilities of our board.

    • Leads the Executive Committee and Member Committees 

    • Overseas the growth and development of the Association

    • Appoints committee chairs with the approval of the Executive Committee

    • Leads Monthly Meetings

    • Manages Association’s expenditure 

    • Acts as the spokesperson for the Association 

    • Maintains contact with other professional organizations

    • Assists the President in overseeing the Association 

    • Provides strategic direction and oversight to the Programs and Membership Committee

    • Leads the Special Events: Scholarship & Holiday Diners

    • Coordinates with the Treasurer on Program revenue and expenses

    • Manages and documents all finances for the association

    • Files yearly tax return 

    • Oversees corporate and event sponsorship 

    • Provides reimbursement to board members for association expenses

    • Provides financial summary at Executive Committee meetings 

    • Works with Membership chair to ensure all dues are paid

    • Orders plaques for event speakers

    • Prepares annual operating budget

    • Prepare Meeting Minutes and Agenda for Executive Committee meetings

    • Help set and coordinate in-person Executive Committee and Board meetings

      • Coordination with venue

      • Check-in attendees at events

    • Prepare Emails for communication with members  

    • Provides oversight to the Communications Committee

    • Maintains Google Drive for document control

    • Leads organizing monthly lunches 

    • Identifies potential speakers for lunches 

    • Manages the programs committee that assist in setting up lunches 

    • Bring Video/Audio system as needed

    • Prepare Event on Eventbrite

    • Prepare Event Flyer

    • Assist Vice President with Special events

    • Manages current membership logs 

    • Coordinates with Treasurer on membership dues

    • Leads external membership communication 

    • Leads the member appreciation event

    • Provides strategic ways to grow association membership

    • Updates website with current association information 

    • Updates website event calendar and page

      • Calendar to show next month’s event 

      • Provide pictures of past events 

    • Provide social media monthly blasts

    • Provide a newsletter (2-4 times a year)

    • Connecting student groups to guest speakers in the rail industry.

    • Setting up, managing, and judging the annual design competition (referred to as the “Challenge Project”) project to teach rail design methodology and CADD skills.

    • Coordinating field visits with our agency partners and affiliates.

    • Providing a hands-on rail engineering program (referred to as the “Rail Lab”) through partnerships with regional railway preservation organizations.
